2/26/09. First post since september!!
This society does what it is supposed to do. People are happy, and the world keeps spinning without any fighting. The problem is that there is no original thought from people. Nobody questions life, and it seems like all resources are spent on keeping people happy, not advancing their civilization. This is probably deeper than Huxley intended or a different thought completely, as I feel like he was trying to make a point on what kind of civilization would be the nicest to live in. You can either have the freedom to think but have horrendous living conditions, or be a zombie that doesn’t care about life in really nice living conditions fulfilling what Huxley says is the human races greatest want whenever you want, with whoever you want. It’s hard to say what you would rather want, because as the book has shown, we tend to accept the world that we’re presented with, until you find a flaw. If you find a flaw, Huxley did what every civilization has done in human history and they use religion as a way to explain the problems of the world. With either society, I feel like you’re brain washed. It’s either being brainwashed and believe that a merciless God is responsible for why life is miserable, or be brainwashed to be happy by means of hypnopaedia or other conditioning. So the Brave New World society is bad because there is no original thought and if people aren’t thinking and unhappy with the world I don’t see how any progress could be made to discover the way the world works, or answer questions like ‘why are we here?’ which I feel are the ultimate questions in life. But I would take it over the savage reservation, because at least in the Brave New World there is happiness and even though there is worshipping of a God, Henry Ford, it isn’t as dramatic or violent.

Chapter four
In these chapters, Rob re visits his ex girlfriends and he's looking for answers for what he is doing wrong in relationships. When he goes to see them it's really depressing because he never gets what he's looking for. They basically tell him to leave and they never tell him what he's doing wrong. It's pathetic what he's doing. Going back to re visit his old girlfriends and asking really awkward questions is so sad. They end up feeling sorry for him too so they try to level with him, and it makes Rob feel every worse. With Charlie she's different and tells him that he wasn't confident enough. He would blame himself....but then he wants to be able to blame someone or something else for all of his struggles. He's a sad guy that's spending his life trying to find out why he's looking for the reason that he's looking for all of these problems.

Chapters 7-13 RAAAAAGHHHHH!
These chapters were incredibly annoying for me. Rob keeps messing up his life with everyone and it drives me crazy. The way he just keeps himself in the past and absorbs himself with music is so frustrating. He cheats on Rosie and he only realizes he loves Laura when she doesn't like him. He uses the past to decide on what to do in the future but because of this he just makes the same old mistakes OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. He never learns. He finally meets a girl who is really nice and they're about to get all promiscuous and whatnot but....he gets mad about how sex isn't nice or something stupid and ruins it. I love this book because of how annoying it is. It's really insightful into relationships, sort of a 'how not to' guide into relationships. The way people interact is believable in this book also. Mainly the girls. Normaly in a book it's the main character that gets screwed with by the other characters but in this book, the main character does this all to himself and analyzes it as his life is going. I hope he can realize that he needs to stop looking into the past to solve all his problems but as of right now, it doesn't sound promising.
